Hello!
Sorry for the delay in getting these out. It’s been a busy couple of weeks!

Please see the video observations below and a new Orthomosaic & 3D model. The most remarkable change since I sent out the last update is the progress on building a rock retaining wall at the bottom of the slide. You should be able to see it in both videos and the 3D model.

Progress is slow but steady

On Saturday, May 13th, vegetation management and drainage tending were observed on road areas not in the closed section. Even a section of the hillside was removed that had slowly encroached onto the roadway.

In the slide area, a lot of progress was observed on a runoff management system west of the slide. I’m not a Civil engineer, but if I were to guess, this will help prevent future slides but potentially help stabilize the current one.

Sunday’s flight was sponsored by our first Patreon Anonymous Annie! You too could have a sponsored flight named after you, but there are only three more flights to name! Sign up quickly!

Sunday, there was plenty of activity observed: New fencing, dirt had been moved, a trench had been dug…

However, this is where communication from CalTrans would be great: If they prioritized getting one lane of traffic open, why trench across the entire road?

Also, there is a current theory on the mountain that the Wunderlich Park Forest Health & Fuel Reduction Project might have contributed to this project, as one of the areas cleared is directly above the slide. Additionally, according to the San Mateo County Parks own map, a Class II Stream is running directly from the treatment area above CA-84 to the point that the slide occurred…

A CPRA request has been submitted on behalf of everyone. When we get a response, a summary will be made available on this website. I admit I am not a Civil Engineer, but without clear and consistent communication, one can only draw the inevitable conclusion that CalTrans is NOT prioritizing one-lane traffic as they cut across the entirety of the roadway.

Some progress, but not much

Apologies in my tardiness of getting last weeks updates out. This past weekend, and the weekend prior, show similar progress. Machines have moved, and on the 23rd of April it was observed that the surface of the road had been scrapped away. However, on the 29th of April, it looked fairly similar. So, a little progress, but not much else.
