07-02-2023 Restoring State Route 84: Construction Update and Timeline

Welcome to the latest blog post providing a comprehensive construction update on the ongoing efforts to repair the State Route 84 slide near Woodside, San Mateo County. This article highlights progress and outlines the projected timeline for the road's reopening.

On March 9, 2023, a slide occurred, causing significant damage to a 250-foot stretch of State Route 84, leading to the closure of the road segment between Foxhill Road and Portola Road.

The repair process encompasses several critical tasks, including slope repair and constructing a robust retaining wall. Furthermore, the roadway's structural section is being meticulously reconstructed, erosion control measures are being implemented, and the drainage system is being repaired. As an active construction site, the road remains closed to ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists.

Currently, the primary focus is stabilizing the lower slide and filling the southwest quadrant slide/hole. The project involves ongoing pile extension welding and painting for 34 piles. The new westside drainage system has already been completed, with further repair work in progress. The mobilized drill rig is actively placing three 4-50' long piles, reinforcing the downslope side of the road.

Considering the repair timeline, CalTrans anticipates that by late July 2023, one-way traffic will be permitted through the affected area, marking a significant milestone in the restoration process. By October 2023, the road will reopen fully, allowing regular two-way traffic flow.
